What are the minimum system requirements for your software?

This software is intended to run on Windows 9x or higher, 64MB memory, 16 bit soundblaster compatible sound card or better. For network versions of the software you will also need to have a spreadsheet package preinstalled, like Microsoft Excel.

PASS software was written before the distribution of Windows Server 2003. It should work on this platform, however, assuming correct network permission settings.

Is PASS software fully compatible with the latest versions of Windows?

Yes.
For WINDOWS 7 read the relevant W3 Insights technical white paper by clicking How to run PASS software on Windows 7 .
For VISTA full details can be found in the relevant W3 Insights technical white paper by clicking How to run PASS software on VISTA.

Where is my whole school audit database file?

The PASS SCHOOL AUDIT.mdb file will always be found in your server installation directory. e.g.:

\\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME\Program Files\W3 Insights\PASS Secondary Network Version\ PASS SCHOOL AUDIT.mdb

You can also click on this link to download a movie demo which shows how to locate this file.

Your software did not install on my machine. Why?

All full working versions of PASS, and the demonstration installation, should work across all 32 bit Windows operating systems (ie not Windows 3.1). The programme may not work only if certain windows files are missing or have been corrupted - specifically:-

The installer may call any of these Windows dll files

during an install:

• advapi32.dll

• gdi32.dll

• kernel32.dll

• ntdll.dll

• rpcrt4.dll

• user32.dll

If one or more of these system files – usually found in the system (for 95/98/ME) or system32 (for NT/2000/XP) directory – is missing or corrupt, the installer may not function properly.

PASS software was written before the distribution of Windows Server 2003. It should work on this platform, however, assuming correct network permission settings.

Will your software work on Research Machine computers?

In terms of networked software you may need to add PASS SCHOOL AUDIT database and *.rtf files in Stu_Recs folder to File Protector's exclusion list to allow these files to be written to and read from on the server (but not deleted).

As far as their new CC3 network is concerned we have several schools using these systems with PASS successfully. However, we would advise you to contact RM's own technical support team for server configuration guidance or consult their on-line resources.

If in doubt we'd suggest you opt for one of our cleaner and less expensive on-line solutions.

Do you provide network installation support?

We do not provide support for specific network systems within an organisation. They vary in nature just too much!

In the first instance we would always recommend that you contact your own network administrator or equivalent outsourced network manager.

However in our experience most P.A.S.S software problems are quite simple to resolve -assuming a network has not been upgraded (in which case a simple re-installation of P.A.S.S. is usually the safest course of action!). We can usually help you identify the source of your problem but always advise clients to stick closely to the installation guidance within your product manual.

So far every client that has contacted us with a network problem has been able to ultimately carry out a successful electronic audit. If you need support just email us with a description of the issue and specify your windows operating system.

When I try to install the software I receive an error message and the installation terminates prematurely. What should I do?

Your Windows operating system has been corrupted or damaged. Check system files – usually found in the system (for 95/98/ME) or system32 (for NT/2000/XP) directory. If necessary, repair / re-install windows.

When I try to run “Setup.exe”, the PASS Client Installer software, the installation is unsuccessful and I receive a message:”Error installing iKernel.exe (0 x 800)”. What does this mean?

You do not have permissions to execute the Setup application from the server installation folder on your client machine.

- Log off and re-try the installation when you have logged on as system administrator.

- Change your networked permission / access settings. Consult your network administrator.

In windows 95/98 I receive an illegal operation error message after a report is formatted but before being printed: “exception eedfadeH in module RTFOBJ.U32 at 02f:05a7651b".

This suggests the possibility of a corrupted PASS program file or Windows file.
Re-install a fresh copy of PASS software. If this fails perform “clean” full Windows installation.
