The KS1 Pupil Attitude to Self and School (P.A.S.S.)
Rating Scale was developed over 18 months in collaboration to the
main exacting methodology as the older measure and piloted with
primary, junior & infant schools across more than 30 LEAs to measure
specific aspects of children's attitudes towards themselves as
learners and their attitudes towards school. It was designed
initially as an educational profiling tool - meaning that it allows
preventative very early identification of pupils and schools
"at-risk". This can sometimes be in advance of attitudes translating
into behavioural outcomes.
Teachers can, therefore, use P.A.S.S. to inform timely and
strategic intervention to reduce the negative impact of
disaffection, low self-regard and related attitudes on attainment
and other key educational performance indicators.

P.A.S.S. assesses 4
core dimensions based around learner self worth, learner response to
the curriculum, pupil perceptions of their learning environment and
metacognitive (study) skills.
Item readability is around 3 1/2 years
of age. Students with little / no literacy can still access the
measure with with each item automatically read to pupils and
re-presented, if required dynamically on-demand.
Assessment is standardised and nationally benchmarked for students
of 4 years of age and above and is fully ICT enabled. We offer an
engaging and interactive online
solution.
